  4. as clergy and the demand for toleration toward gays (RELIGION,
  5. Nov. 13) are yet other sad indications that modern Christianity
  6. is decaying into little more than a high-minded social club.
  7. Those who are attempting to adapt church rules to their own
  8. life-styles forget the underlying principle of Christianity.
  9. True Christianity is built on the unshakable foundation of
  10. absolute moral values laid down by God, not men. God's laws
  11. cannot be modified to accommodate the whims of social
  12. conscience.

  16.     I think your article perpetuates the myth that homosexual
  17. people have a certain life-style for which they seek the
  18. church's endorsement, when in fact gays lead lives every bit as
  19. diverse as those of nongays and are merely looking for the right
  20. of participation, not endorsement. Enlightened thinkers within
  21. our churches are beginning to realize that spirituality is a
  22. human concern that extends to everyone, not just heterosexuals.
